Last summer Tududuh went to Berlin for a videoshoot and a few gigs. When we played at Mauerpark, Camille from EOTY Events in Paris was in the audience. She asked us to come to Paris and together with her colleague Dalila, she booked us three shows.

On day one we played at Le Buzz, a basement reminding me of a minuscule Berlin warehouse. Les Prussians opened the night with a set of steaming rock and after we finished our own show, Wasted Wasted did a cool DJ set.
On day two we went looking for a good place to play in the streets to attract people to come to the gig at night. The only people we found were these bunch of kids who were completely into our music. Dancing, jumping and playing guitar on their tennisrackets. In the end we asked them to take a picture with us doing a "cool" pose. They already are way cooler then all of Tududuh combined.. Damn!The gig at Les Disquaires that night went very well. We were really getting into it, until the DJ told us to stop after only five songs. It was his time.. Hmm.. When you come all the way from Holland to play a few songs, the DJ can't even wait for fifteen minutes and let us finish our set?!? What an ass. Since we had all that adrenalin in our bodies, we decided to do a set next to the Seine. Usually it's suppose to be idyllic and romantic around there, but this night everyone was drunk and looking for a fight. Weird atmosphere.. I almost got choked by this fresh looking fellow.On day three Dalila and Camille took us to better places to play on the streets. It was a beautiful day. There are worse ways to spend the day than to play in the sun in this magnificent city. We sold some CD's and got some people to come to the show that night. Mission accomplished!At night we played at La Plage. A cute little place in the Bastille area. Our support this night was Sacha Page. A singer/songwriter who was in the French version of Popstars or Idols or whatever you call those shows. His voice reminded me of one of my favourite singer/songwriters; Sondre Lerche from Norway. It looked like it was gonna be a quiet night, but just before showtime the room was full. People enjoyed the show very much and so did we.Afterwards we had to run to Place de la Bastille to meet up with our new friend Rod Maurice. Rod is the man behind famous videoblog Le Hiboo. He took us to a bridge to film a few songs. At the end of the first song, Yeah Yeah Yeah, a tall black security guard came up to us and started making wild gestures and telling us to move. So we did.We moved to the roundabout at Place de la Bastille, where Rod came up with the brilliant idea to film me while I was crossing the street. Crazy traffic everywhere, total chaos.. and I had to walk through it! Man.. my legs were shaking. Either way. I made it to the other side alive and this is the result. I like it!
In the end we want to say thanks a lot to Camille, Dalila, Anouk, Les Prussians, Sacha Page, Rod and everybody who came to the shows. We're already making plans for a follow up later this year. A bientôt Paris!

I was listening to the song Rosie from Das Pop's first album this morning and had to think of Roesy. Last week I played a solo show, in Zwolle, with Amsterdam based Irish singer-songwriter Roesy. Great voice, lovely lyrics. Impressive. I had this song in my head for a few days. Ohrwurm!

Vandaag hebben bassist Michiel en ik in Koninklijk Theater Carré opgetreden in het programma Opium, op Radio 1. Het was voor mij, en voor Tududuh, de eerste keer dat we live op nationale radio mochten spelen. Spannend!! Maar leuk! Ook om van te voren even door het gebouw te dwalen. Wat een zaal is dat!! Ik was er nog nooit geweest en was behoorlijk onder de indruk van het formaat en de ornamenten. Michiel en ik dachten: nu we er toch zijn, laten we even een liedje spelen. Emma, van Opium Radio, heeft er een filmpje van gemaakt. Waarvoor eeuwige dank. De 80 seconden live op de radio gingen fantastisch. Wat wil je, met zulke geniale muzikanten als wijzelf. Tja.. Wende Snijders was er ook. Ze zei over ons iets als: "Lekker agressief! Je moet eigenlijk zien hoe ze erbij kijken." Jan Rot vond het leuk dat er met dezelfde drie akkoorden nog steeds nieuwe liedjes werden gemaakt. Weet hij veel dat de rest van de tracks allemaal bestaan uit hexatonische verminderde mineur zeven mol tien akkoordenschema's met willekeurig wisselende maatsoorten... Hieronder een paar plaatjes en een filmpje van een zatermiddag als alle andere.

Vandaag heb ik samen met grafisch ontwerper Jasper Jongeling het artwork voor het hoesje van de nieuwe EP afgemaakt. Het is een arbeidsintensief stukje Dymo-gekte geworden dat de nadruk legt op de pretentieloosheid van Tududuh. Hier een paar plaatjes van het proces. Jasper heeft ook de serie Tududuh 01 t/m 03 ontworpen. Op 2 oktober kan je het schijfje in het echt zien. Reserveren voor de EP-presentatie kan via tududuh [at] gmail [dot] com.

That's it. We're done. Mission accomplished. Thanks a lot to directors Ramses and Daniëlle. Apart from being late after getting stuck in traffic and a few interuptions coming from an agressive drunk and some workers, the videoshoot couldn't go any better. I'm really excited. You'll have to be patient though. It'll take a while before it'll be on youtube. Thanks to Eileen, Ronan, Joris and Nina as well for getting up early and helping out. At night we did a little set at another bar in Neukölln. It was packed. Today we're gonna enjoy Berlin. We have to leave again tomorrow. I'd love to hang around some more. There's not much wrong with the place.

Day four

YeahYeahYeah! A lot has happened again. We haven't been relaxing at all in this boring little town. We've only been driving from the one side to the other and back again. Moving equipment, setting up, play and pack up to play somewhere else. It almost feels like work! But so rewarding, especially when you listen to the reactions of the audiences (interesting quote: "the best thing I've heard since The Libertines"). What have we been up to? Well, we had some great plans for doing an electric guerilla gig at Mauerpark. Due to the weather being so unpredictable and another band stealing our spot, the plans didn't work out. We did an acoustic set instead. At night we did the electric set for the first time, at a bar near Rosenthaler Platz. I enjoyed having a good bit of overdrive on my guitar and having the energy of a full band blasting beside me. I guess we're ready for the stages. We've been asked to play in Paris sometime soon. We just might.

Day three

Saturday was a busy day. Running from one side of the city to the other. First up was a meeting with Ramses, the director of the video, to go through the details again. Shooting on Monday. Then the neverending Tududuh-performance began. We started busking at the Beerfestival at Karl Marx-Allee. It is a bit sad to watch thousands of people drinking beer in the rain. We had some strong competition from this one-man metal band. Check the video below. Impressive! After that we had the biggest pizza in the world and went to our real gig. At a bar called Frühperle. It's a wonderful place. When we finished our show, around 01:00, we went on to the Friedrichshain district to do some busking again. Spectacular! The area houses the biggest concentration of drunk people I've seen in a long time. Around four we ended the night by playing in front of a pizza place. The owner has asked us to play there for some cash and food. Alright, why not. Altogether we played our set over ten times, made some new fans and, our main goal, we're getting better as a band. Fast.

Day two

Alright! Day two. Friday. What happened? We all took a shower. That might not sound very interesting, but in this case it was. Our shower looks like a UFO. It's the most inventive construction I've ever seen in a bathroom. Besides this adventurous start of the day we played our electric set a few times. Since we've been rehearsing our acoustic set for our gig in Paradiso last week, we haven't played electric for a while. We made a few pictures of the site of the rehearsal studio. It's a deserted post office, pretty cool place! At night on our way to a party we walked into a bar, Frühperle, and arranged a gig there tonight. So Saturday 22:30, Tududuh live in Frühperle, Boddinstrasse 57a, Neukölln Berlin.

Day one

Recording video and doing a gig in Berlin this week. On day one we drove to Berlin with all our stuff. Since we haven't released our future number one hitsingle yet, we're on a tight budget. That means, no fancy hotel but a room somewhere in a dodgy part of town. Fifth floor, no elevator, no comfort and no toilet or cold water (just hot!) for the first day. Luckily our hostess found the key to the shower and bathroom this morning. Anyway, we're off to a rehearsal space now to perfect our electric set. Here's a pic of some Tududuhs waiting for their kebabs early this morning. They were good I must say. More quality prose like this tomorrow.

Die hulp pakt erg goed uit, vooral ook dankzij de bijzonder geslaagde tweede stem van de gitarist. De poppy liedjes over vertrekken uit de stad en, als we het goed begrijpen de liefde, kunnen het prima gebruiken. Zelfs de eenzame blower vooraan zal dat beamen. Mooi. Veelbelovend ook."

Day two was a blast! Guitars, synths, percussion and a whole lot of handclaps... We're all very very excited about where it's going, but we're not finished yet. We still have to record lead and backing vocals. Man!! It's been good. Working with mr. producer Erik Spanjers is a lot of fun. All those weird vintage mics he's got hidden in his cupboards... So, here we go. Another update! Yes! Indeed. What about? Well, about the music. Because I'm excited about the music. About three songs in particular. Three songs that we're gonna record next week with producer Erik Spanjers. I'm really looking forward to going into the studio. Talking about this might make you curious. I'm gonna have to disappoint you though, it's gonna take a while before the tracks will be out there. But if you don't like cycling, you're welcome to come see two of the Tududuhs play at a nice indie-festival on the ninth of May in dB's Utrecht. We might play a few new tracks! The songs we're gonna record will be a bit louder and faster than you're used to. With some edgy guitar and synth parts.. That's all I can say about it now. I don't really know why I'm writing this in English again by the way.. maybe because I'm working on lyrics for a new song and thinking in English at the moment. I'm at my parents house in Wassenaar with a few friends, writing and relaxing a bit. I have to be in good shape for the recordings next week! Weehoo! Ow, yeah, before I forget... Jammer! Dit nummer heb ik zo vaak op mijn walkman geluisterd dat het bandje slijtplekken vertoont. Daarom hieronder nog één keer. Met Tududuh gaat het overigens prima. De eerste repetities gaan lekker. Het is erg leuk om met die jongens de liedjes aan te kleden. Op 3 en 4 mei gaan we al de studio in. Hierover later meer. After many rehearsals with different musicians, Tududuh is a band now. Yes. Tududuh is a band. Last Thursday I played my first gig with one of the new bandmembers, Jelte Timmer, in Luxor Live. He played guitar, some synths and did backing vocals. Friday we had the first rehearsal with the whole band. The other members are drummer Otto de Jong (Swelter, Mary had a Little Band) and bassplayer Michiel Bel (aka Pry from Pax and Pry, and former guitarist of the late Illicit). I'm really happy to have these guys in the band. Next months we'll be rehearsing and writing. And then it's time for world domination. Naturally. This whole band thing doesn't mean that I won't be playing acoustic sets anymore. For instance, on the 2nd of April I'll be supporting Marinus de Goederen in an Amsterdam livingroom. Only a few tickets left here! Update: Amsterdam gig is sold out.

"They" say it's good to post new stuff on your weblog frequently. To keep you coming back. Well here you go. Have I got something in particular to tell you? Nope. Not really. I'm still in the process of forming a band. Things are looking good, but no bandpictures are made yet, if you know what I mean. Besides the band-forming, I'm writing quite a lot. Productivity is low, but I'm working on the songs in my head constantly. Even when I'm at work songs are floating through my mind. I've been writing with Michiel and will be writing with Marinus in the near future as well. On Thursday I'm off to the coast to write at a friends house for a day. I like the vibe that I'm in. Get stuff done! Can't wait for the band to be complete and get into the studio again. Patience.. patience.. Pff.. I don't have patience.. arghh.. Talk to you soon! Hopefully with a nice picture of a few handsome boys...

Yessss! I'm back in Utrecht again. Feels like I've been away for months. Now it's back to work again. Still searching for bandmembers. Last week I was in Switzerland for some serious skiing with a group of friends from all over Europe. Good score, two out of fifteen ended up in hospital, never seen such severe injuries in my life! I'm okay though.. Ow, got asked today to support Symon in Luxor Live on March 18th. That's grand.

Sechs: Final Day

Pfoe!! So many things happened in these six days... Amazing! Having loads of fun with Solo, playing great shows, meeting really cool new people, staying up way too late... I don't even know where to start... It's so strange being back in Berlin. The city looks completely different when it's this cold. When I left Berlin in August it was thirty degrees, fourty degrees warmer than it is now. I walked through the street I lived in. Ice and snow everywhere... A lot of memories came to me, I had really happy times and really sad times in the four months I've lived here last summer. I did some writing in a bar in the afternoon. Enough to write about.. After having a good dinner we drove from Neukölln to Intersoup in Prenzlauer Berg. At the nice and cosy Intersoup we set up our stuff. It was really great to see some familiar faces from Holland at the show. Solo and I are both really sad it's already over. Hopefully we'll get the chance to do this again soon! Tonight I'm off for some serious skiing. Ten days of Switzerland. Together with my friend Nick we'll drive from Berlin to Adelboden at twelve. Hamburg-Berlin

Yesterday we drove from Hamburg to Berlin. Went quick. Snow everywhere, looks pretty. We're staying at Get Up Get Down's place in Neukölln in Berlin. Here I recorded Tududuh 03 as well. Last night we had dinner at Andy's place and later on we had beers with About, Thomas Azier and soundengineer Allert Aalders. Allert just came back from a gig with T. Raumschmiere in India. Funny thing, at Andy's place was a huge painting of Johan Derksen, editor of Hollands biggest football magazine VI. Some Irish guy painted it from a picture, without knowing who Johan Derksen was. Strange... Today I'll be doing some writing, I'll go back up to Prenzlauer Berg where I lived in the summer and then get ready for the show tonight. The last one already...

On day four, Sunday, we stayed in Hamburg for another day. Just to walk around and get an impression of the city. I saw a bit. It's a rough city, especially with the cold and so. I saw a pile of blankets lying on the pavement, it took me a short while to realise that there were about five people sleeping there. Minus ten it was.. In the afternoon we had beers with Paco, the guy who was living in the appartment we stayed in. After that we went out for some food. On our way back we passed a venue, Knust, with a big tourbus outside. The backstage door was open so we walked in to see who was playing. The concert had already finished, so we walked out again. Outside we saw that Ian Brown played there. Ian Brown! From the Stone Roses! I felt so bad we missed it.. We went back in to see if he was still there. Knocked on the tourbus, no answer. We walked back inside to find out he was still in the backstage room. We tried to bribe Ian Browns roadies to get inside. Didn't work. Finally he came out and we told him that we came all the way from Holland to see his show... He looked flattered... Little did he know ofcourse...

Remember I was talking about rock 'n roll yesterday? Found it in Hamburg! Very little sleep here. Show was great. The Hasenschaukel is a beautiful venue. If you're ever in Hamburg, forget the Reeperbahn and go to this place. The Reeperbahn is just like the Amsterdamse Wallen but not as nice. Okay, The Beatles played there, but that's a long loooong time ago. We're staying another night in Hamburg before going to Berlin for our last show. Nobody told me it would be this cold though. I heard it was minus twenty in Berlin this morning. Even colder than minus five around here.. Brrrr... Now we're off to see something of this town before it gets dark again! St. Pauli here we come!

On day two we looked at the deer next to our hotel and visited Claus' studio. What a great recording space, and just beside the Haldern Pop festival site! We couldn't resist and climbed over the fences to walk around the fields where we've seen so many great bands play. To name a few: Fleet Foxes, Loney Dear, Editors, Kate Nash... I actually got my guitar out and played a song at the exact location of the Haldern Pop Main Stage. Just a few month early... You can watch it below. In the evening we played at the Blooming Bar in Göttingen. A nice and cosy place with the best owner ever. We had dinner in her husbands Greek restaurant and spent the night at her villa on the countryside. Take a look at some pictures from Haldern and last nights gig below, good huh? I'm enjoying this a lot, but I can't stop asking myself: is this rock 'n roll? Not quite, I guess. Or maybe just: not yet... Tonight: Hamburg!! Just off the Reeperbahn...

Day one of the tour was great! We played at the Haldern Pop Bar, run by the people from the Haldern Pop Festival and the Haldern Pop Record label. The bar was full, people were completely silent. Perfect. They booked us in a hotel nearby. The owners of the hotel were on a holiday and we were the only guests staying. After some beers at the bar we played chess at the hotel. Today we're visiting a studio in Haldern from Claus, the man with whom Michiel is talking on the picture below. Acts like Patrick Watson and Das Pop recorded there. Nice fact, one of my favourite albums, The Human Thing by Das Pop, was released in Germany on Haldern Pop Records.

I'll write in English since Tududuh is going international this month. Next time it might be in Dutch again, we'll see. Anyhow, new stuff is going down! First rehearsals with a band. It looks promising, I hope to have a band in a month or two. I'll keep you on the hight as they say in proper English.

The German tour together with my good friend Solo is coming close. Next Thursday we'll be on our way. It's something I've been looking forward to for quite some time now. Can't wait to pack my guitar in the back of the car, close the door and drive out of the Amsterdamsestraatweg, where I live, to the German border. I'll be updating this blog as often as I can next week with pictures and pieces of pure poetry.. or just nonsense for that matter.. just keep coming back and see for yourself.

Tududuh wordt een band. In 2010 ga ik mijn debuutplaat opnemen. Niet alleen, maar met band. Eén klein probleempje.. die band bestaat nog helemaal niet! Een lege agenda... beangstigend... Het is wel even wennen om ineens minder te spelen, maar het werd even tijd voor het schrijven van nieuwe nummers en het maken van nieuwe plannen. Eén van de plannen is het organiseren van een korte Duitse tour met Michiel van Solo. We hebben in ieder geval een optreden in Berlijn, aan een paar andere shows wordt nog gewerkt. De clip van Tududuh is nu ook te zien op 3voor12 TV op internet. Via deze link. Hoe tof is dat?! De reacties op de clip en het nummer zijn erg goed. Het is leuk om te merken dat mijn muziek langzaam maar zeker meer mensen bereikt.

Tududuh presenteert derde EP in voorprogramma Moss

Persbericht:
Donderdagavond 19 november (dat is morgen!) speelt Tududuh in het voorprogramma van de Amsterdamse band Moss in de Ekko. Hij grijpt deze kans aan om zijn EP Tududuh 03 te presenteren. Tududuh 03 is de derde en laatste EP in een reeks waarin Tududuh op zoek is gegaan naar het ideale geluid voor zijn liedjes. Hij heeft de uitersten opgezocht; van indierock op 01, via singer-songwriter op 02 tot volledig electronisch op Tududuh 03.

Vorige week zondag presenteerde Tududuh zijn eerste videoclip op de culturele zondag Niemandsland in een volle Bastaard. De clip hoort bij het nummer Listen Baby, nummer één op Tududuh 03. In januari gaat Tududuh weer terug naar Duitsland voor een korte tour.

Vanaf donderdag is Tududuh 03 gratis te downloaden op tududuh.bandcamp.com.

Tududuh is opgenomen in appartementen in Neukölln en Prenzlauer Berg in Berlijn, samen met dub-electro producers Get Up Get Down.

De laatste twee Popronde shows staan voor de deur. Leiden vanavond, morgen Eindhoven. Het zal even afkicken zijn... De Popronde was een groot avontuur. Iedere week in een andere stad, op een onbekende plek, met telkens ander publiek. Volgende week plaats ik hier wat quotes uit recensies die de afgelopen maanden zijn verschenen.

Hoewel er met Tududuh veel gebeurt tijdens de Popronde (vorige week Groningen, Arnhem en Den Haag) voel ik geen grote behoefte om er over te schrijven. Dat komt vermoedelijk na afloop van de Popronde. Wél heb ik zin om u kennis te laten nemen van de muziek van anderen. Dat doe ik hier al af en toe. Nu heb ik bedacht er een serie van te maken, met als titel "Luistert u naar..." Vandaag deel 1 met Moss. Er heerste al ruim voor het verschijnen van de plaat "Never Be Scared/Don't Be A Hero" een buzz rond de band. Mensen om mij heen spraken vol lof over de band. Ik was eerst wat sceptisch. Laat maar komen, dacht ik. Het zal allemaal wel meevallen.. Maarrr.. Toen ik de plaat voor het eerst hoorde, kon ik niet anders dan beamen dat het écht een goede plaat was. Én een goede liveband, zoals ik heb mogen ervaren tijdens de CD-presentatie in de Melkweg. Leuk weetje: Ik sta op 19 november in het voorprogramma van Moss in de Ekko. Wees erbij! En koop die plaat!

Afgelopen vrijdag in De Bastaard was tof. Het was stampvol en erg leuk om een paar nummers te spelen met Jeroen en Wouter op bas en drums. Jamie T is te gek. Een paar weken terug zag ik hem snipverkouden in de Desmetstudio's voor 3voor12 radio. Ondanks zijn staat was ik onder de indruk van zijn karakteristieke stem. Nu net z'n tweede album gedownload, Kings & Queens. Lekker zeg! Van dit soort dingen krijg ik zin om muziek te maken. Clipje!!

Tududuh op Sampler

Enough Already, de opener van Tududuh 02, staat op de sampler-CD van Ontzettend Leiden 2009. Ontzettend Leiden is een festival dat wordt georganiseerd in LVC in Leiden. Op de sampler staan onder meer The Cosmic Carnaval, The Moi Non Plus en The Heights. Ik ben erg blij om op de sampler te staan, maar vooral blij om aanstaande vrijdag in LVC te spelen. Ik kom oorspronkelijk uit de buurt van Leiden. LVC is de club waar ik mijn eerste concerten heb gezien. Bands als Ceasar, Green Lizard en later ook Millionaire hebben grote indruk gemaakt. Nu sta ik er voor het eerst in mijn leven zelf! Eindelijk! Overigens hoorde ik gister dat Tududuh op 12 november nog een keer in Leiden staat, nu tijdens de Popronde. Ow, en Tududuh is zelfs gedraaid op lokale radio!

Lichtvoetige huppelpop

"Het getuigt van lef om in een stampvolle kroeg die voornamelijk gevuld lijkt met popronde-ontkennend publiek te starten met ontmoedigende titels als Enough Already en Give Up. De Utrechtse singer-songwriter Tududuh slaat zich bescheiden doch moedig door de kroegruis in Camelot heen. Tududuh klinkt zoals de bandnaam doet vermoeden: lichtvoetige huppelpop, die schijnbaar achteloos uit de gitaar wordt geschud, aangescherpt met tekstuele knipoog en electrobeats uit een nostalgische cassetterecorder. De gelijkenis met Das Pop dringt zich niet alleen op vanwege het vermoeden dat deze zanger zijn haar ook in Gent laat coifferen. Een afsluiting met een cover van Das Pops You rond deze conclusie uiteindelijk mooi af."

Afgelopen weekend was ik naar Into the Great Wide Open op Vlieland. Een geweldig festival, erg genoten. Mooie muziek, fijne sfeer, prachtige omgeving... Op dat festival had ik het genoegen om Tom Pintens voor de tweede keer live te mogen aanschouwen. De eerste keer was met band in de Paradiso bovenzaal, dit keer kwam hij alleen. Ik schrijf dit stukje over hem, omdat ik vind dat zijn muziek meer aandacht verdient. Zijn laatste plaat, Winter Maakt Ons Vrolijk, is alweer een tijdje uit, maar is wonderschoon. Ga hem luisteren. Voor de teksten ('dit keer op het werk zal ik niemand meer ontmaagden...'), voor de melodieën en voor het Vlaamse accent.. Hij heeft trouwens ook de plaat van Roosbeef opgenomen en gaat de volgende ook doen. Misschien dat dat de nieuwsgierigheid extra prikkelt... Ow, kom trouwens eens langs bij een van de volgende optredens! Vrijdag Nijmegen, zondagmiddag Utrecht!

Tududuh is wedergekeerd. Tududuh is terug in Nederland en het begin was goed. Gisteravond aangekomen, vandaag mijn eerste twee optredens gehad, op In Vervoering Amersfoort. Eerst in een vol bootje, al varende door de grachten van de stad; Magisch! Later op het festivalterrein in een vouwwagen, ook te gek. Morgen In Vervoering Utrecht, zin in!

Enne, kijk eens hoeveel shows eraan zitten te komen! Onder de indruk? Ik in ieder geval wel!

Het zit er alweer bijna op, mijn verblijf in Berlijn. Vrijdag ga ik weer naar huis. Boehoe!! Maar, zoals alles heeft ook dit twee kanten. Jammer om de stad te verlaten terwijl ik nog het gevoel heb zoveel te kunnen doen en te moeten beleven. En leuk om mijn familie en vrienden weer te zien en veel te gaan optreden. Hier even een kort teken van leven van het Berlijnse Tududuh-front. Dit weekend hard aan de slag voor het opnemen van een clip voor een nieuwe track. Actrice Karlijne en regisseur Ramses (zie korte film hieronder) zijn uit Utrecht overgekomen om er iets heel moois van te maken. De track komt op Tududuh 03, release in november. Verder heb ik een mooi giglijstje staan op mijn myspace, al tien shows in het najaar. Indrukwekkend, oder? Nieuwe songs staan in de steigers, waaronder eentje geschreven met A Balladeer-zanger Marinus.

Afgelopen weekend ben ik naar het Melt Festival geweest vlakbij Berlijn (zie foto). Eind deze week ga ik zelf weer spelen. Zondag de 26ste in Intersoup en op 30 juli in Gelegenheiten. Oorspronkelijk zou ik de enige zijn op 30 juli, maar ik heb Marinus de Goederen, zanger van A Balladeer, gevraagd om ook een paar nummers te spelen. Marinus woont een tijdje in Berlijn en was er wel voor in. Het wordt een hele bijzondere avond denk ik.

De muziekjournalist Matthijs van der Ven heeft een website, onderinvloed.com. Voor deze website nodigt hij artiesten uit om covers te spelen van hun voorbeelden. Op een locatie naar keuze filmt Matthijs de covers en zet ze online. In februari heb ik drie nummers opgenomen in het café waar ik werk in Utrecht, theatercafé de Bastaard. Nu zijn ze klaar! Ik heb een eigen draai gegeven aan nummers van David Bowie, Das Pop en The Faint door samples en beats op te nemen op mijn Philips D6410 cassetterecorder. Check het uit op onderinvloed.com! Ik vind het erg tof.

Het is zover. Het moment van de waarheid. De gebeurtenis waar ik tijden naar heb uitgekeken: Tududuh 02 is uit. Hij is online. In mijn vorige bandje hadden we een beperkt kader waarin we werkten. De klankkleur van de muziek varieerde niet veel. Met Tududuh probeer ik dat anders te doen. Mijn verblijf aan de andere kant van de grens gebruik ik om verscheidene zaken uit te proberen en verschillende klankkleuren te integreren in de nummers. Voornamelijk omdat ik het leuk en spannend vind om op die manier met muziek bezig te zijn, maar ook omdat ik langzaam naar een album toewerk.
Dat album moet erg gevarieerd worden. Ik hou van gevarieerde albums, luister maar naar Soulwax' Much Against Everyones Advice of naar de plaat die op dit moment overuren draait in mijn Itunes: Essers' Braveface. Beide zijn gevarieerde toegankelijke platen, zonder plat te worden én, heel belangrijk, zonder een eigen gezicht te verliezen. Een eigen gezicht, oftewel een eigen geluid, vind ik erg belangrijk. Ik wil geen plaat maken die er al is. Ik wil iets toevoegen, iets oorspronkelijks.
Daarmee kom ik terecht bij het eigenlijk onderwerp van dit stukje: een verslag van mijn optreden in Intersoup afgelopen zondag. Toeval wilde dat Utrechts eigen Danibal in de stad was. Danibal speelt mondharp. En als er iemand oorspronkelijk is, is hij het wel. Ondanks dat ik hem nauwelijks kende, kwam ik op het idee hem uit te nodigen om mee te spelen tijdens mijn optreden. Zondagavond hebben we heel kort gerepeteerd en iets later speelde hij twee songs mee (nadat hij de avond had geopend, maar dat is een ander, lang, verhaal). Het was een leuke en interessante samenwerking. Helaas zijn we vergeten het opname apparaat aan te zetten, dat vraagt om een herkansing in Utrecht...

Tududuh is in ontwikkeling. Naast de gigs die in de agenda staan op myspace, speelt Tududuh ook op andere plekken. De afgelopen week bijvoorbeeld. Eerst op een open podium in restaurant Hofperle in de wijk Neuköln, vervolgens zaterdagmiddag in U-Bahn station Stadsmitte. Voor het eerst in mijn leven (okee, die ene keer in Terneuzen met mijn middelbare schoolbandje niet meegerekend dan) heb ik de straatmuzikant uitgehangen. Ging nog goed ook, CD-tje verkocht en centjes verdiend. Best lucratief... Vandaag heb ik op het DMY Design Festival gespeeld. In het zonnetje heb ik tussen de DJ's door wat nummers ten gehore gebracht aan de bezoekers. Veel lachende gezichten gezien, das een goed teken vermoed ik. Tjussie!

Er staan vier shows in de agenda op het moment: 6 juni in de tuin van Zapata (bevestiging komt snel vermoed ik), 14 juni in Intersoup, 27 juni in Madame Claude en 26 juli weer in Intersoup. Cool allemaal. Gister heb ik met Voin uit Australie aan een electronisch nummer zitten werken. Voor een eerste ontmoeting was het erg productief. Optredentje erbij! In Intersoup. Ik ben er een keer langs gefietst en het is een leuke plek. In een intieme kelder onder het café-gedeelte staan een aantal bij elkaar geraapte bankstellen voor het publiek. Ik ben benieuwd hoe het zal zijn! Verder ontdek ik telkens weer nieuwe podia, dus er komen nog wel wat data bij. Vandaag achter de computer bezig met een nieuw nummer en straks meeten met About.

Gister en eergister was ik te vinden in Schokoladen en Arcanoa. Bijzondere plekken allebei. Niet veel mensen, maar een goeie sfeer. In Schokoladen heb ik gesproken met grungie singer songwriter Pete Mac uit Ierland. Misschien gaan we een keer samen optreden. Bij Arcanoa heb ik onversterkt gespeeld met Pedro uit Ecuador en Antonio uit Panama op respectievelijk maracas en bongos. The Rebound Guy met een latin-ritme eronder.. Weer eens wat anders..

Tonight, Heute Abend, Vanavond! Tududuh in Zapata. In het voorprogramma van The United Steelworkers of Montreal, waarvoor ik in oktober in dB's het voorprogramma heb gedaan. Ik ben er erg blij mee. Mijn eerste optreden meteen in Zapata. Is toch leuk, niet? Na een mailtje naar Zapata en een myspace-berichtje naar de band, werd ik gisteravond gebeld door de programmeur. Of ik er om zes uur kon zijn en dat de Steelworkers vroegen of ik mijn apenmasker mee wilde nemen... Kijken of ik er hier een kan vinden en of ik een Steelworker zover kan krijgen om cowbell te spelen met het masker op...

Aanstaande zondag ga ik voor het eerst spelen in Duitsland. In Schokoladen. Maandag in Arcanoa. Het zijn open mic-sessies. Nog geen echte shows. Mijn tactiek is om bij open mic-sessies in contact te komen met mensen die weten op welke plekken je kan spelen. Ik ga ook proberen om supports te regelen in iets grotere zalen, maar dat blijft altijd lastig.
Gisteravond ben ik naar The Asteroid Galaxy Tour geweest in Lido in Kreuzberg. Ik werd er erg vrolijk van. Een goede band (met blazers!), goede show, goede soulsound en goede nummers. Vandaag merk ik echter dat er weinig van is blijven hangen. Dat vindt ik toch raar. De band lijkt alles mee te hebben, maar maakt toch nauwelijks blijvende indruk. Also..

Maar nu belangrijk nieuws; sinds heden ochtend is Tududuh 01 voor het bedrag van 0 euro te downloaden op Bandcamp!

Momenteel ben ik aan het zoeken naar plekken om op te treden. Je merkt toch echt, ook al wist ik dat wel, dat het een stad is voor elektronische muziek. Misschien moet ik onder ieder nummer een elektrobeat plakken om aan optredens te komen. Ik denk overigens dat het wel goed komt. Ik heb een aantal zalen op het oog.
